Let’s Get to Know the Health Benefits of Ylang Ylang Oil for Hair and Skin

Many of us would prefer to use the most simple ways to treat our body. Simple, yet highly beneficial. A small, non-hard thing to do, like the humble benefits of sleeping on your back, which can also make your skin turn healthier.

When facing choices between chemical or natural products, most people would turn their head to the natural ones. Many plants or flowers can be extracted into natural remedies, and of them is Ylang Ylang.

Ylang Ylang is called in with different names, but the original name of it is always Cananga odorata. Included as a tropical plant, it can be found mostly in Asia, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Philipine, Thailand, and Australia.

This essential oil (Cananga odorata var. Genuina) comes from the large flower petals of the tropical Ylang Ylang tree. Ylang-ylang is still a sibling with Kenanga, an endemic Indonesian flower,  their shape is similar but smells different.

The name is a bit unique doesn’t it? Ylang Ylang, in their origin, actually means “the flower of flower”. The unique name was given due to its character, a sweet smell that’s different from other flowers. Because of this, Chanel used it as a main ingredient for one of its perfumes.

Due to the beneficial character, this plant is always sought by many, especially for its hair and wound treating ability. But surely there must be the other benefits of this oil, such as :

1. Natural Face Cleaner

First benefit, other than the benefits of Hyaluronic Acid for skin, is to work as a natural face cleaner. Ylang extract is rich in anti-bacterial properties, making it effective when used as a facial cleanser.

Not only that, this anti-bacterial content can also fight infection and help the healing process in skin cells. To experience these properties, you can use a facial wash or toner with ylang content.

Apply some oil right after you’re coming from work or other outside activities. Do it regularly to reach maximum results.

2. Maintain Skin Balance

Many kinds of essential oil are useful for balancing your skin, including the benefits of Niacinamide for skin. Ylang Ylang on the other hand, does the same way, bringing a similar benefit.

The next benefit of Ylang Ylang is to help maintain skin balance by controlling sebum production. Whether it’s oily or dry skin, this natural ingredient can improve the amount of sebum that the oil glands produce so that facial skin gets the right moisture and is always healthy.

3. Reducing Infection Risk

Ylang ylang oil contains properties that will disinfect wounds, prevent microbial growth, and protect you from bacteria, virus, and fungal infections. It makes the healing process more smooth and simple.

Any wounds that become rough with time can be treated with ylang ylang oil. This oil has also been found to treat infections in the stomach, intestines, colon, and even the urinary tract. It can also be applied to treat insect bites.

In Romanian research, ylang ylang oil was one of the essential oils found to effectively fight biofilms (a thin layer of bacterial secretion that contains communities of bacteria and other microorganisms), ultimately helping in the treatment of infections.

4. Cure Eczema

Other than benefits of Buchu Oil, a regular use of Ylang Ylang oil can cure eczema, included as one dangerous skin disease.

Eczema is a terrible disease caused by dysfunctional sebaceous glands. It infects epidermal cells and begins to show on your skin. Your appearance would be very unattractive as it takes away the beauty of your skin and gives it a rough, uneven appearance.

It can occur on your scalp, cheeks, or eyebrows. However, with ylang ylang essential oil, you can cure this inflammatory situation and reduce skin redness by balancing and controlling the sebum production.

5. Making Your Hair Smoother

Not only useful for the skin like the benefits of VCX Serum, Ylang Ylang oil can be a perfect natural way to treat your hair. Use ylang ylang to enhance the appearance of healthy and shiny hair. It can also help to prevent tangles and dandruff, while also functioning as a hair loss remedy.

Besides, it does smell really good. Due to its properties that are quickly absorbed into the brain’s olfactory system, inhaling ylang ylang can have an immediate and positive effect on your mood and act like a mild and natural depression medication. Research shows Ylang ylang can help release negative emotions, including anger, lack of self-confidence and jealousy.

6. Moisturizes Dry Scalp

Not only for facial skin, Ylang ylang can also be used for hair care. This greenish yellow flower is suitable for those of you who have dry scalp thanks to its ability to stimulate sebum production.

Since dry scalp can make your hair dry and brittle, this natural ingredient can also improve hair texture and reduce hair loss. To use it, mix 5 drops of Ylang ylang essential oil with two teaspoons of warm carrier oil.

Massage into the scalp, then wrap hair using a hot towel. Let it moisturized together for 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

7. Eliminate Hair Lice

Not everyone is suitable for flea medication on the market because it is too harsh on the skin. As a solution, you can use Ylang ylang essential oil to get rid of those problematic lices. One thing that is important to remember, this content has the potential to cause allergic reactions on the scalp, especially in children.

So, you need to mix it with a carrier oil in the form of coconut oil and apple cider vinegar. Don’t use it too much at first. Just use a small drop to test whether your skin is allergic or not.
